In late 60’s, with the arrival of Fr. Sagers SJ, the birth of Bible Enquiry Centre took place at Church of Our Lady of Dolours -commonly known as Boitakhana Church. Till the later part of 80s it functioned from Boitakhana under the supervision of various Jesuit Fathers. In early 90s Fr. Schillebeeckxz SJ took charge, from Morning Star College and later Fr. Moses M. Rozario. In 1995 it was once again shifted back to Boitakhana, and was looked after by the Commission for Evangelisation/ Proclamation. Registration cards were issued from the centre to those who were interested in knowing the Holy Bible. Bibles were also distributed from Boitakhana Church and St. John’s Church Sealdah, and there have been several thousands who have completed the correspondence course through the Bible Enquiry Centre.

Now this important ministry it being looked after by Church of Christ the King, Park Circus at Divyavani.

Seva Kendra Calcutta is the social service arm of the Archdiocese of Calcutta. Across the years it has built up a reputation of service, trustworthiness and integrity. It serves the struggling, suffering, poor and disadvantaged people of West Bengal and is being constantly challenged to improve upon itself as a catalyst for social change through service, animation and mobilisation of people and build a network of partnership with like-minded organisations.
